LONDON (SHARECAST) - Mortgage approvals fell unexpectedly on the month in May, Bank of England figures showed on Tuesday. The number of loans approved for house purchase in the UK came to 49,815, slightly below the 49,828 approved in April. Economists were looking for a rise to 51,000.

LONDON (SHARECAST) - Continued signs of life in the UK housing market were confirmed by the number of UK mortgage approvals in November, which rose for their fifth month in succession to their highest level since March 2008, according to figures from the Bank of England.
